Also sold as Alyosha, Aljosa or Alosza. A very early, yellow-fruited Cornelian cherry selected in Ukraine for its fruit quality and early bearing. Oval, yellow fruit weighs about 3.5 to 5 g and is juicy and sweet enough to eat fresh, as well as dried or cooked into jams, jellies and syrups. Ripens in early August, earlier than most cultivars. Grows as a small tree or large, spreading shrub, 10 to 16 feet tall and about as wide, and is very cold hardy. Reported to begin bearing as early as its second year.
