KSU-Chappell™ is the latest introduction from the Kentucky State University pawpaw breeding program. It closely resembles Shenandoah but is described as a faster growing, stronger tree, and one of the most vigorous pawpaw varieties available. Fruit is medium sized, with creamy yellow flesh and a sweet, banana-like flavor, ripening in September to October. Reported hardy to -20°F (zones 5 to 8). Like other pawpaws, it needs a second variety nearby for cross-pollination.
